Sports Events for the Summer

With the NBA and NHL playoffs winding down, many sports fans are looking for something to watch as the summer approaches. There’s baseball of course, but for non-baseball fans, the summer can be a boring time in the sports world. Here are some events to look forward to:

The Belmont Stakes

On June 11 the Belmont Stakes will be running for the 154th time. The Race will start at 6:45 led by favorites Bourbonic (15/1), Essential Quality (2/1), and Rombauer (3/1).

The U.S. Open

From June 16-19 the U.S. Open will be played at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. The U.S. Open is always an exciting time for golf fans as it’s another opportunity to see the best in the world perform against each other.

Boxing

Boxing fans have a lot to look forward to with matches throughout the summer including:

• Artur Beterbiev vs. Joe Smith Jr. (June 18)

• Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs. Ronny Rios (June 25)

• Mark Magsayo vs. Rey Vargas (July 9)

• Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Davi Avanesyan (Aug. 6)

The NBA Draft

While the NBA season is ending with the Warriors and Celtics battling in the finals, the offseason will quickly pick up. The NBA draft is on June 23 and will feature tons of young stars including Jabari Smith (Auburn), Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga), Paolo Banchero (Duke), and Jaden Ivey (Purdue).

MLS Rivalry Weekend

Soccer fans can catch the MLS on weekends all summer long. From July 8-17 the MLS will be hosting their rivalry weekend, allowing fans to watch some of the best rivalry matches the league has to offer.

Wimbledon

From June 27-July 10 the greatest tennis players in the world return to London for the Wimbledon Championships. As always, this is an exciting time for Tennis fans as they see greats like Nadal and Djokovic perform along with up-and-coming stars like Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Coco Gauff.

UFC 276

The UFC is bringing an exciting fight night to fans on July 2 from Las Vegas. The UFC 276 fight card is filled with high-profile fighters including Max Holloway, Sean O’Malley, and Alexander Volkanovski, and capped off by the main event between Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier.

NBA Free Agency

After a long July filled only with baseball, the NBA will give fans some much-awaited sports news starting at 6 P.M. on Aug. 2. NBA free agency is one of the best reality shows in sports. Expect stars like Zach Lavine and Deandre Ayton to be on the move.

Hall of Fame Game

Football is back on Aug. 4 with the Las Vegas Raiders taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Canton, Ohio. While this might just be a meaningless game, it signifies the start of the season and is an exciting time for NFL fans as the summer begins to wind down.
