Early Super Bowl LVII Odds: Should Chiefs be the favorites? Should Bills be second?

One of the NFL’s most memorable postseasons ever came to a close with another one-score finish as the Rams beat the Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

So, for football fans, another off-season is unfortunately upon us (except for those excited for the USFL, which will be making its return mid-April).

But, it’s never too early to look ahead to next season. And Caesars Sportsbook already has its odds for the 2023 Super Bowl favorites. The Chiefs have the best odds at +650, followed by the Bills at +700, then the defending champion Rams at +1000, and then the AFC champion Bengals at +1200.

At first, these odds seem fair. The Chiefs have been to four straight AFC title games, all in Arrowhead Stadium, and except for a couple bumps in the road this season, Patrick Mahomes keeps getting better.

Then it’s the Bills, who have MVP-caliber quarterback Josh Allen who some argue may be even better than Mahomes right now. Buffalo’s defense is also better than Kansas City’s statistically.

But are the Rams, who just won the Super Bowl, getting enough love? They probably have an easier path being in the NFC.

The Packers could be losing Aaron Rodgers to a team like the Broncos. The NFC South is looking subpar after Tom Brady’s retirement. The Cowboys continue to choke in the playoffs. And the Cardinals are currently dealing with Kyler Murray’s antics and could be losing their star quarterback this off-season.

So who’s the Rams’ biggest competition in the NFC? Probably their divisional foes in the 49ers. San Francisco showed they can best the Rams in the regular season, but Stafford and company proved otherwise of course when they beat the Niners in the NFC Championship.

Over in the AFC, though, the Chiefs and Bills are going to have a lot of competition. These two teams met in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this season, and that could certainly happen again next year. Plus, Joe Burrow has a young Bengals team hungry to get back to the big game, Justin Herbert is getting better and better with the Chargers, Derrick Henry will be back, Lamar Jackson will be back.

The AFC just seems to have more depth right now than the NFC does. And if Tom Brady was still around, that argument could probably be voided. But it just doesn’t seem like there’s nearly as much in the way for the Rams getting back to the Super Bowl than there is for the Chiefs or Bills to get to the big game (who might have to play each other to get to there anyway).

So, Rams +1000 right now? I like those odds.
