College Football’s 2022 Recruiting Class
The 2021 college football season is about to begin, which means that high school athletes have already started to commit to their universities for the 2022 season. There is no denying that stellar college football recruiting can have a drastic impact on football programs across the country, and the 2022 class is filled with talented and exciting players.
Currently, Ohio State leads the 2022 24/7Sports recruiting rankings after securing three 5-star recruits and twelve 4-star recruits. The Buckeyes’ 2022 recruiting class includes the number one overall player for 2022, quarterback Quinn Ewers from Southlake, Texas.
Other notable Ohio State commits for the 2022 class include Jaheim Singletary, a 5-star cornerback out of Jacksonville, Florida and C.J. Hicks, a 5-star linebacker from Dayton, Ohio.
Penn State has also had success in recruiting for the 2022 class. The Nittany Lions are sitting at 2nd in the 24/7Sports rankings after securing two 4-star running backs, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, as well as 4-star quarterback Drew Allar and a handful of 4-star wide receivers.
Penn State had a seriously rough early-season during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it hasn’t stopped James Franklin and the Nittany Lions from landing big recruits, especially Pennsylvania natives.
Don’t expect the 24/7Sports rankings for the 2022 recruiting class to remain static. Alabama is currently sitting at 5th on the list, but expect Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide to land some impactful players before the recruiting season is over.
Other teams to key an eye on are 14th ranked Clemson, 7th ranked Georgia and 3rd ranked Notre Dame. These are all excellent college football teams, and I would expect to see Clemson and Georgia finish with a higher ranking in the end.
The SEC and B1G are always in the conversation when it comes to high caliber college football players, but there is a team on the other side of the country that is recruiting phenomenally. Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks are the only PAC-12 team that is currently ranked in the top 25 for 2022 recruiting.
The Ducks have secured one 5-star recruit and seven 4-star recruits for 2022 so far. Oregon’s recruiting is elite enough to steal players from their home states. Seven of their recruits for 2022 are from Texas and Alabama, stealing them from programs like Alabama, Auburn, Texas and Texas A&M.
Oklahoma and Texas have also been recruiting well for the 2022 class. The Longhorns are ranked 10th according to 24/7Sports and the Sooners are in 6th. Texas relies heavily on in-state recruiting. Ten of their 14 commitments are from the lone star state.
Even though the 2021 college football season has not started yet, the excitement that recruiting brings is relieving during the offseason. Football programs can be changed by landing talented recruits, and the 2022 class is filled with players ready to prove their value.
